Our goal is to get as many parrots as possible into wonderful, loving, permanent, homes. Where they can spend the rest of their days unafraid. Knowing that they are safe,secure,and happy. Into homes where they have plenty of toys and stimulation, plenty of interaction with their humans, plenty of time out of their cages, and plenty of good things to eat.

 

We are not one of those rescues that want to make money off of your bird. We never charge incoming or outgoing fees ever. We are completely self funded. We do not,breed,buy,trade,sell or make money off of your bird in any way.We understand that some rescues need to charge money to stay in business.We don't consider ourselves a business,we just love birds and want to help them in any way that we can.

 

  We run our rescue out of our home and it is run with a different twist than other rescues. Instead of keeping hundreds of birds waiting for homes, what we do is have people fill out adoption applications in advance. We approve or deny them as they come in.Then as we get a call for a bird that needs a home, like a macaw for instance, we will call the next approved person for a macaw and so on and so forth. As long as they get along with the bird and the bird gets along with them then they get to adopt. If they don't get along then the next person on the list gets moved up, and the one that didn't get along with this bird gets to try again on the next bird.Of course this is a simplified version.We also look at degree of tameness and how much experience the person has had with macaws.(Or the size /type of bird they are interested in adopting.)Some birds require experience with that particular type or size of bird.If the bird has any handicap and if the person will accept any handicaps.If the bird has any behavior problems and if the person will accept any behavior problems, if they have any experience dealing with behavior problems.There are a number of things we look at before placing each bird.We do our best to make every match the best we possibly can.

   We do however handle birds that need extensive behavior work the traditional way.We do rehab here at our house before placing birds if necessary. Otherwise we do in home behavior training and support after placement for mild problems.       

                                                                                                        

    We are part rescue part sanctuary.Some birds will never leave here due to the extent of trauma they have faced in their lives before coming here.Some physical,some mental.Generally though we do try to place any bird that can be placed. 

   Every bird is spoiled rotten with lots of attention, toys, fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh cooked foods and birdie breads,out of cage time, etc.

    We have a lifetime of experience with finches to macaws and over 20 years experience in parrot rescue. We're located in Mio  M.I. and specialize in macaws to conures.We can always take macaws,cockatoos,african greys,pionus,amazons,eclectus,caiques,conures,meyers,

senegals,quakers,etc.

      If you are within an hour of Mio, or we can fit you into a pickup route, we will pick up smaller birds.We will also take smaller birds if you are willing to meet us. 

   We know that sometimes life throws you a curveball and  due to foreclosure, divorce, illness, death in the family, a move, or other life change you may no longer be able to care for your bird, or you might have ended up with one of someone else’s due to one of these things.

   Maybe owning a bird just wasn't what you expected. For whatever reason, we are a safe non-judgmental place where you can send your bird and you can feel confident that it will go to a good home where it will be well taken care of and loved for years to come.  

  Please do not abandon a parrot, or send it to live with someone who doesn't understand it, or really want it. We will make sure that it goes to a loving, healthy home.  We will even pick it up from you, also free of charge. 

                    

     

When calling be sure speak clearly when leaving your number.We get many messages that we can't understand the number left, and to many calls a day for our caller ID to hold.

Do not call about wanting to adopt.We must have an application filled out and returned for you to be considered.We can't and won't conduct phone interviews.We adopt out only to Michigan residents.

All birds we adopt into our rescue have homes waiting for them based on the applications that we receive.We do not have birds available at any time.If your aplication is approved you will be put on a waiting list until your turn comes up,we can't tell you when that will be.We will let you know when your turn comes up and a bird that fits your experience, and requests comes in .
