Hi Everyone, I'm new as of today and am thrilled to find this site..... I have 5 pet exotic birds. Two Greys, an African Ringneck, a parrotlett and a Severe Macaw. I handfed and raised them all except one of the greys. They are all my babies and I love them dearly. I am looking for help and advise on a problem I have with my Severe, Zues who is 11 yrs. old now. Every spring he goes into the "hormonal stage". It usually lasts two to four months and he returns to his normal pet behavior. However this year he seems to have gotten stuck there. All he wants to do is act territorial and aggressive. All my birds are allowed free run ON their cages during the day and have one on one with me daily. Except Zues, he only wants to attack me now (and anyone else that gets close to his cage). I have been bitten severly several times now and have become afraid to try to handle him now. This is not a good situation for either of us and I'm at my wits end trying to figure out what to do to get him back to his "pet status". He's been like this for about six months now. Can anyone give me some suggestions on what to do to break this cycle? I would so appreciate some help because I'm at a point where I'm thinking I have to find him a new home and that just breaks my heart. Thank you in advance for your help.

I just want to also say welcome to everyone. I popped on to the website to see what was going on and found the forum up and running. How very exciting. I would like to say I have adopted a parrot through this rescue. "edit" fits perfectly into our home. He is rather loud and can be obnoctuous Amazon. He makes my daughter and I laugh till it hurts, he keeps the cats on their toes and the other birds screaming with delight. He loves to go for rides in the car and will wear a harness and go for walks in the park. OH yes he loves to go to the pet store and watch what everyone is doing and tell them "Hello". He especially likes to be where he can see me at all times. Luckily my neighbors think he and the other three birds are hoot cause they sure know how to wake up the neighborhood!! So if you are thinking about getting a parrot these people have the touch and if you don't hear from them right away just relax, they will find you the perfect bird even if it takes a year!!! If you have questions or are in need of a parrot babysitter, I would be more then willing to also help out. Of course the parrot babysitter, people need to live in Michigan. "edit" like to have other friendlies to chat with. Thanks Home Forever Parrot Rescue of Michigan for the great job you are doing!!! Susie

Thanks Susie.Your zon certainly is a character. We do our best to try and get an idea of exactly the perfect match for each family and we have had amazing sucess over the years. Some matches are easy to make, while some are much more difficult to find.It just depends on the type or types of bird and the qualities that are required. First of all I'd like to say that it's great that you are willing to work with Zeuss. We always recomend trying to keep the bird in it's original home if possible rather than rehoming. I would have Zeuss step up onto a towel or blanket from inside of his cage if you are concerned with his biting you when he steps up..I would then remove him to another room to work with him there. You really don't have to do anything special unless he is still acting agressive. Many times they'll settle down as soon asy are away from their cage.In this case I usually take them into my bedroom and let them run around on the bed.I let them come to me if they want but I let it be their choice.I talk to them, sing, read to them, whatever as long as it's indirect attention. The more attention they pay to me the more attention they get from me such as jingling a bell, rolling a ball wadding up a piece of paper. Finally we'll move on to holding and petting..Sometimes this will do the trick all on its own if the problem is that he's become cage aggressive during breeding season.I've had several birds go back to "normal "after just a couple of weeks of using this method.

Hi, I just thought I'd check out the site.I got one of the check in calls from the rescue to see how my babys are doing. I couldn't believe it's been almost a year already .Anyway if your looking for a place to adopt these guys are great!I couldn't believe I really got to adopt mygrey from them. He's really a sweety most of the time.he's got the usual greys moods but then they all do.I just love him so much and thank God every day for these people and what they do.They take such good care of all of their birds to.And you can tell how much their birds all love them. Thanks so much for everything Matty and Joe. Hello, I am new here, found you while looking for places to post a lost ad for my cockatiel, Cisco. He was lost in Comstock Park last Friday, October 2. I have ads and fliers up everywhere, have contacted local vets, humane society, animal control, etc. We also keep visiting near where he was last seen. Hopefully we will find him. Is there a way for me to post a lost ad here on this site? Also, I was looking at your list of vets and just fyi, the vet you list in Lowell as Ruth Langlois, is actually Bruce Langlois. That's all for now, take care everyone!
