About Me

I accidentally stumbled upon this site and it immediately drew my attention.  I had a quaker parrot and a male eclectus.  I miss them terribly as they are both gone.  I was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in May 2004.  This is a fatal lung disease where scarring fills the lungs and it's a progressive disease.  For some reason birds aggravate the condition so I started telling my babies that I would need to find new homes for them.  One was 13 yrs old and the other 10 yrs old.  They were the best of friends, talked with each other, teased each other and truly watched out for each other.  They knew lots of tricks and one called me mommie.  In 2008 the 13 yr old suddenly had a health change.  His behavior changed and within 3 days he passed away.  Three weeks later I found a home for my 10 yr old and it just happened to be my vets receptionist.  I thought perfect, she already new the bird, his entire medical history and she was very interested.  My husband and I went to her house and they seemed like down to earth people, had other animals and everyone got along.  I told her I would be in touch and would like to visit in about a month to see how he was doing.  I had to find homes for both birds because I was placed on the lung transplant list and in July of 2009 I received a double lung transplant.  I never got to see my 10 yr old because he died 3-1/2 weeks after he moved into his new home.  She said he seemed happy, was talking and eating well.  I think the realization set in that he lost his best pal and his mommie and his heart was broken.  My new lungs are doing fine and I have a new lease on life.  As I write this I still cry.  I went to the mall today to visit the birds and were told they no were going to sell birds; there just wasn't a market.  I would love to have a african grey because I understand they are very smart, love to play and can be a great companion.  Maybe someday that could happen as the medical field is always making advances.  God bless you for your new beginnings and the good you will be doing in this most important field.
